Yosemite experiences the most visitors during summer, particularly in June, July, and August. To avoid crowds, visit in the shoulder seasons: late spring (April-May) or fall (September-October). Mid-week visits and early mornings are less crowded as well.
If you are visiting in summer you might also consider visiting the less crowded areas of the park. You can enjoy the equally stunning views of areas like Tuolumne and Hetch Hetchy while dealing with much less crowding.
Parking in Yosemite Valley fills up early, often by mid-morning, especially at popular trailheads. Arriving before 8 AM or using the shuttle system, when available, can help. It's also a good idea to park once and rely on shuttle services for the day.
Parking will be much easier if you are visiting in the late spring or fall.
Lodging and campsites inside Yosemite fill up quickly and are often booked months in advance. It’s recommended to book as soon as possible, especially for peak season. Consider accommodations outside the park if you're unable to secure a spot.
Traffic can be heavy, especially during peak seasons and holidays. Expect delays on weekends and plan for extra travel time. To minimize this, start your day early and consider staying in or near the park to avoid some of the congestion.
Yes, Yosemite has a shuttle system, but it doesn't cover all areas and may not run as frequently as needed. During peak seasons, the shuttle is a great way to move around Yosemite Valley. However, if you want to explore other areas, you may need a car.
Popular spots like Tunnel View, Yosemite Falls, and Glacier Point can have long lines, especially during peak season. Visiting early in the morning or later in the evening can help avoid the biggest crowds, and visiting in the shoulder season (October through April) is also recommended.
You can also book a tour with an expert guide who will show you the less crowded, but equally stunning areas of the park!
